Home Learning

Home learning activities will be set via Class Dojo or on paper copies by class teachers.  In Spring 2026 we are trialling a new method of home learning, which looks like this:

  • Reading

Class teachers (for children in Years 2-6) will send home at the end of the week a copy of the text that they will be working on in the following week’s guided reading lessons. We will also make accessible (see below) a copy of the appropriate-aged question stems so that you can ask the kinds of questions that the children will be answering the following week. This way, the children will gain fluency reading the text at home before reading it in class, and will get further practice at answering questions in our focus areas: retrieval, inference and meanings of vocabulary in context.

  • Maths

The children from Year 2 to 6 complete weekly arithmetic challenges independently. At the end of the week, the class teacher will share (via Dojo) examples of two question types that the class required most support or consolidation with. They will also share an example of how we complete these questions in school, so you can practise further questions like these at home with your children if you wish.

  • Phonics

For the children who are still learning phonics, we will share a QR code which links to personalised targeted sounds that your child needs to practise further to support with their phonics development. These will be updated regularly and with phonics, the more practice, the better to help your child gain fluency.

We are trialling children working at home in this way so that the work is an extension of the learning in the classroom, is meaningful and also shines a spotlight for families on the way the children learn their core skills in school.

Times Tables Rockstars

Our pupils from Year 2, all have access to this fantastic website! The children are able to login and practice their times tables and flex their maths powers!
