PSHE policy and guidance

Updated PSHE policy and teaching resources

The Department of Education have updated their guidance for schools on the delivery of their PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) curriculum. The expectation is that the Primary curriculum includes coverage of Relationship education and Health education. The latest Government guidance can be found below.

To support the school in the delivery of the PSHE curriculum, and to ensure that we are compliant, we have purchased resources from 1Decision. This scheme is used by many local schools and has been recommend to us. 1Decision is a bank of video-based lessons that enables pupils to explore and discuss a range of topics.

We have updated our policy, which is available below, along with other resources from 1Decsion to give parents the chance to get a flavour of what the children will be learning about.

We request that parents take the time to look at the updated policy and resources available, and if you have any questions please share these with us via the office email address by the 7th May.

You will note from the policy that if you would like to withdraw your child from the Relationship aspect of the curriculum you will need to complete the form within the policy.

Using the resources, we have created a long-term plan, which is documented within the policy, but as we are staring this new scheme now, we have made the decision that we will be teaching the following topics during the remaining two terms of this academic year:

  • Keeping safe
  • Being responsible
  • Relationships

Please note Mighty Oaks will do Y5 elements of keeping safe and being responsible and then the Y5 and 6 elements of the relationship section.

If you have any comments or questions- please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards,

Mrs Clark (PSHE subject lead) and Miss Howden (Headteacher)
